What is CGES?


CGES stands for Coalition for Green Energy and Storage. The coalition addresses the challenges of climate neutrality and energy security by integrating cutting-edge research, industry expertise and policy support in scalable demonstrators, so-called catapults.

What is the vision of CGES?


CGES protects the future of the Swiss and global economy by implementing sustainable and scalable solutions to the energy and climate crisis.

Who are the founders of the coalition?


The founding institutions are ETH Zurich, EPFL, PSI and Empa. The non-profit association has no commercial purpose.

What are the specific projects?


The large-scale demonstrator projects, referred to as “catapults,” use existing technologies with industrial support backed by scientific assessment. The projects are CO2 capturing, solid waste energy storage, sustainable synthetic fuels accelerator and net zero campus.

These catapults serve as role models for national and global scaling.

What are the revenue streams used for?


Membership fees from industry, academia, associations and public entities mainly pay for events such as roundtables and publications for the members. Donations and sponsorships from private and institutional donors are used to accelerate the energy transition through the catapult projects.
